Habiba Isla White
Also known as Biba Isla and "Hollywood" of hair, native of New Orleans, has had a passion for hair as early as the age of 4 years old. Her grandmother told her the story of how at 4 yrs of age she tried to cut her own bangs, her grandmother told her " Let me show you how!" So you can say her grandmother taught her first haircut!Her mother added, she was branded for life, being that at the hospital from a day old, the nurses would brush her long thick hair in the nursery, "When the nurses brought her to the room for feeding, her hair was always parted on a different side and slicked down!"
" My childhood and lifetime memories of people are not faces or names, but their hair! So if you had fabulous hair, that is the one thing I will remember about you!"
At age 12, with the instruction of her older cousin, she learned how to cut her first A-Line Bob, " I was so excited, even more when the client was pleased! It looked fabulous!" She said she was hooked on shears ever since!
From that moment, she was Cutting and Coloring hair for anyone who trusted her! She even colored and cut her own hair as a young teen!
Her Training in the early 90's at John Jay Beauty College was her first of many accomplishments, she still holds on to the training, and expertise they have taught her! In 2010 she graduated from Vanguard- Paul Mitchell's partner school in Baton Rouge, in the Learning Leader Program.
She has had extensive training in Color with companies such as Paul Mitchell, Redkin, Wella, just to name a few. In November 2010 she will be an American Board Certified Hair-Colorists!
Displaced from Katrina, she is currently in New Orleans/ Baton Rouge, working for Film, Fashion Shows, Magazines, and local Photographers! She is also a Freelance Hairstylist with her new company Metro 112! The name derives from the idea of a subway or streetcar, in a hip fast paced, cosmopolitan city, mirrored from her fine art, which includes cultural diversity high fashion, and will be at your location and convenience!
Biba has worked and trained in the hair industry from the West Coast all the way to the East Coast. Before Katrina , she was a hairstylist of Beverly Johnson, the first African-American Supermodel on the cover of AMERICAN VOGUE. She also worked as a hairstylists for the Motion Picture "RAY" starring Jamie Foxx!
"One day people will open their eyes and realize, there is enough to go around, and stop trying to hold each other back from their goals," she states, "This is my dream!"
